Our story
Welcome to Le Bosquet.
We’re Mireille and Maurizio, and this is our farm in Sarsfield, just outside
Ottawa, Ontario.
We work with willow, dogwood, and wool, and what we’re really sharing here is a way of living close to the land. Our farm is home to more than 40 varieties of willow and 10 varieties of dogwood, along with our small flock of heritage fibre sheep.
Le Bosquet is a small, nature-rooted farm shaped in part by Becketts Creek. The land stays naturally moist in many areas, which the willows love, and there’s a living pond that supports frogs, birds, insects, and a wide range of other life throughout the year.
We see wildlife moving through the farm every day along paths that have formed naturally over time. Deer, foxes, coyotes, and smaller animals use these corridors to move between water, cover, and forest edges. In the early mornings especially, deer pass through at dawn and birds gather near the pond. There is a steady rhythm of life here.
At the centre of our daily life are the animals we share the farm with. We have two small Chihuahua–Dachshund-Yorkie dogs, three barn cats, eight sheep, and three goats. They all have their own names and personalities.
Alongside raising our own sheep, we also work with wool from carefully selected farms. We’re especially drawn to rare and heritage breeds, and part of what we do is help keep those genetics in use and appreciated through fibre.
The wool from our sheep is transformed into vegetarian sheep fleece that are made from freshly shorn wool rather than hides. They keep the natural structure and character of the fleece while allowing the sheep to continue growing wool year after year.
We acknowledge that our farm is
located on the traditional, unceeded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe
Peoples. We are grateful to live and work here, and we try to approach the land
with observation, care, and respect. The pond, wildlife paths, and surrounding
landscape are all part of a living system that we are fortunate to be part of.
What We Grow and Make
We grow willow and dogwood for propagation, basketry, floristry, living structures, erosion control, soil improvement, and landscape projects. Each fall and winter, we harvest cuttings, rods, and whips for customers across North America and internationally.
Alongside our willow fields, we raise heritage sheep and transform their wool into vegetarian sheep fleeces. These are made from shorn wool rather than skins, allowing the natural form of the fleece to be preserved while keeping it entirely free of leather backing.
Beyond Our Flock
While our Founder’s Reserve Collection comes from sheep raised here at Le Bosquet, we also source exceptional fleeces from carefully selected farms in Canada and abroad
for our Provenance Collection.
We work with shepherds and producers who share our approach to animal care and responsible husbandry. Each fleece is chosen individually for what makes it special—its lock structure, softness, colour, lustre, or rarity.
Many come from heritage or uncommon breeds that are not widely available outside their region. Once they arrive here, they are transformed into one-of-a-kind vegetarian fleeces that keep the character of the original fleece intact. No two are ever the same.
Some of these fleeces then come to life in our Atelier Collection, where fibre becomes a medium for artistic expression. Through wet felting and various textile techniques, we create one-of-a-kind pieces that highlight the natural beauty of wool, its texture, colours, and story.
These creations are not mass-produced décor items. They are fibre art pieces made for designers, textile artists, and those who appreciate natural materials with presence, history, and soul.
